Hi Holly, and thanks. This picture was taken at a gallop as we were trying to locate our returning taxi driver…..not the best circumstances for night time shooting!
In reply to ‘what he is frying’… its an array of dal vada( fried lentil dumplings) and pakoras (vegetable fritters in chick pea flour)..Indian version of American or British ‘fish and chips’. These savoury fried fritters are found at most corner shops, fresh and always in demand. Great with a cup of chai.
Do you know what he is frying?
At first I thought he was smoking 🙂
No idea Laurie, it was a quick dash through nighttime streets….grab a shot and hightail it!
I like the smoke obscuring his face…it must have been powerfully pungent, with the frying and incense.
The aromas of India are often pungent!
Wow I love how I first saw the huge dish of food, then the smoke, and finally the man behind the smoke, mysterious.

Thank you Verna, for shining a light on my ignorance. Street life in India is endlessly fascinating.
