We drove in our jeep across a vast expanse of scrub and bare open desert before we came to the water. No doubt after a monsoon period, much of the desert that we crossed would have been submerged, so it feels strange to find these last vestiges of that watery expanse spread out in front of us here. A world diminished to dust and cracked mud elsewhere, but here, the home to thousands of birds.
The open expanse of land and sky is breathtaking.
