Pushkar Lake

Pushkar Lake

Pushkar is a Hindu pilgrimage site and the town is one of the oldest existing cities in India.

The focus of the town is the lake where pilgrims come to bathe in the sacred waters at one of the 52 ghats. In recent years the town has become a popular destination for foreign tourists. As a tourist you are, of course, a target for those offering blessings at a price. Taking photographs seems to be no problem for local visitors, but some puja ‘businesses’ think that they can stop you taking photos until you have forked out for a blessing.

I’m always sensitive to what people are doing at places of worship and sometimes would avoid intruding into the worship where it seems inappropriate. Here, though, they just irritated the hell out of me. I took my photos!

    • Thanks very much. It’s a country that I love visiting as you can tell! The serious drought conditions and high temperatures are very worrying. I hope that the monsoons bring some relief.
