Three Views of the Amber Fort

Three contrasting views inside the magnificent Amber Fort in Jaipur.

Some notes from my diary: Tuesday 27th October 2015.

At the door of the hotel, we met up with our guide for the day, named Durga, a polite and well dressed man who took us to the Amber Palace which is situated on an impressive ridge just north of the city. The landscape here is fairly arid and the fort stands above a lake, around which we drove to find the narrow, sometimes cobbled lane that twists and turns past old houses and an interesting temple to reach the top of the hill. The fort has four impressive courtyards, the first being parade ground size where elephants were arriving, bringing two or three people at a time through the gateway. A very colourful scene opened up as women in traditional Rajasthani dress arrived in groups and all were very happy to pose against the honey coloured stone of the architecture.
