Winter on the Gatehouse Road
You would be forgiven in thinking that we have a lot of snow here on the coast, but you would be wrong. The reason there are snow pictures is because it’s less usual so you have go out when it happens and take lots of photos. This was taken on the day when I went to Castle Douglas to visit the surgery when I should have been in Gatehouse of Fleet.
I don’t know why I swallowed a fly, perhaps I’ll die.
Quite an interesting work, John 🙂
Have a beautiful weekend 🙂
Thanks Sreetith. Off to a national photo championship tomorrow. All the best to you.
I wish snow scenes were rare here in Atlantic Canada. *sigh*
Ah, we certainly get variety here……so there’s much more to complain about here! Thanks Amy.
Stark but a dramatic image. I particularly like the curve of the road and the dark moving to light. Very nicely done.
Did you hear how you did on the competition where you had the village scene in color?
Thanks Tim, I’m off to Stirling tomorrow to hear the results of a national competition, so it will be a long day.
I’ll have my fingers crossed
Last time I was awarded a bronze medal for a judges favourite image. This time not so good. I think one print got a 12 out of 15. They seemed to be quite harsh marking the monochrome prints. You win some, you lose some!
John, I’m sorry to hear that. Judges can and are subjective. They would like to think other wise but…. I preferred the color version. How many images were you allowed to enter?
I entered 3 mono and three colour. There were 3 doing the judging, so I think it was a balanced assessment.. Our club has improved its position, coming about 18th out of 30 Scottish clubs…..quite good as we’re only a small club and have done better than some larger clubs.
My best result was for Winter Haze. https://smithiesshutter.wordpress.com/2015/01/12/winter-haze/
Congratulations to you and your photography club. Competitions with criticism can be valuable to improving. It sounds like that is the case in your club. The Santa Rosa Photography Society of which I’m member, seems to do well among those 11 clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I too like Winter Haze. It is more than just a nice landscape. It has tension and dynamics.
Hi Tim and thanks for your observations. With one club competition to go (and that will have Winter Haze as an entry), I am currently ahead this season in group 1, so keeping my fingers crossed!
Congrats and I too have my fingers toes crossed
Lovely composition and tone. Have a great week.
Am now following your fascinating blog….thanks for dropping by.
