Preparing for the Road
I had travelled from Rajkot in Gujarat where steam was still operating on a local route and was amazed to find another surviving steam service from Chittor, south to Mhow.
This engine had come in earlier and was being readied in the shed yard for the return journey. Unlike the steam routes around Rajkot, this was a proper express service.
Been there.. Done that! Good old India!

What a wonderful image. Nostalgic Little steam left in the world that is used for regular service. Most now are for excursion.
Steam is what took me there in 1998….. So glad I went.
I would imagine, 17 years later it is hard to find any operating steam in India. Too costly to maintain.
