Winter Haze

Winter Haze

I’m not quite sure what made me choose this image for use on the blog……..you may say that it’s perfectly obvious…..the low sun, the shadows across the foreground, the smoke from chimneys drifting across the roof tops, the coloration, and the detail of the sky………but in the original file they were only a slight potential…

My first step was to crop, which placed the tree – and contained the scene.

Then I used Nik Color Efex Pro 4, specifically the Bleach Bypass Filter which does some tone mapping as well as desaturating.

Finally I added a vignette.

I hope that you like it. This one is headed for a Scottish Photographic Federation Print Championship. Wish me luck……!

  1. John, I think it is a stunning image. I particularly like the light and the textural nature of the building and how the fence rail seem to mirror that. I am bothers by the strange curve of light that appears in the upper left corner. It does not look natural. I also think that the light in that area is almost blown out. Good luck with the competition.

Let’s see … I’ve reblogged posts of winter scenes in Norway and Bucharest …. how about a bit of winter chill in Scotland, from another of my favorite photography blogs.
