Ambiguities
Reflections and reality come together in a confusing way in this evening street scene in Kirkcudbright (Ker-coo-bree). Members of the Stewartry Camera Club were out in force to catch the sunset in the harbour and over the river Dee, and a fine one it was, but yours truly was out hunting portrait subject matter and shop fronts. A portrait coming up soon.
I really like this image. The reflections are very nice but is the overall sense of painterliness about it that draws me into the image. The scene reminds me of Edward Hoppers painting “Nighthawks.” Yours has that somewhat voyeuristic feeling without the people sitting at the counter.
Wow, that’s a very intense evaluation, Tim.
I had to remind myself about the hopper painting. I see the parallels…..entirely coincidental though. On the same evening I shot people through a window and felt very voyeuristic.
Hmmm…… Thanks For pinning me down on that memory.
You’re welcome. Pleased I generated something. Oh, boy…..
Very close to NightHawks
Hmmmm, so it would seem……thanks very much Victor.
I love the playful reflections here, countered by the moody night atmosphere.
Thanks Alexa, I came past here in the rain tonight and wish I had the camera as the lights were on but the place was deserted.
