Badami Ghats

Badami Ghat

Badami is one of my favourite small towns, and is famous for the rock-cut cave temples in the red sandstone cliffs that surround the town. The ghats are used for washing clothes and for bathing and on my visit in 1997 they were looking rather neglected. On subsequent trips here sections of the tank shoreline have been repaired and tidied up.

Badami is a good base from which to explore the World Heritage sites at nearby Patakkadal and Aihole which date from the seventh century.
