Washing Up

Washing Up

By the skin of my teeth is how I might categorise this photo.

We had dropped by the Folk Museum in Kannur and while there was plenty of interest to see and photograph, I really wanted to capture people. The light was poor and this pretty woman was clearly embarrassed by my intrusive camera, especially as I had caught her at domestic duties, and was resisting turning toward me. I risked taking two shots and this was the second.

The low light and high ISO together with the difficult contrast gave me problems with the processing, but I like the painterly result. Your comments are welcome.

    • Hmmm….certainly by the skin of my teeth, Stephen, because technically I’m always on dodgy ground, trying to work in less than ideal light, so I have to push both the camera and the processing, which doesn’t produce the best technical quality. To me, though, what counts is getting the image, and it was the way the light bounced around this small dark room that made me take the picture.
