Steam at Hillgrove

Steam at Hillgrove

A brief stop on a train journey from Ooty to Metupalayam, and we have the opportunity to stretch our legs at Hillgrove station (3,580 feet) and take a few photos of our train.

No sooner have we left our seats than we were surrounded by the station monkeys begging for food scraps and to provide a diversion for those not interested in our steam locomotive. A well worn path across the tracks led me to a small grassy bank which, no doubt, has provided a photographic vantage point for countless photos of the this train since the railway was first opened in 1908.
