Engine at Metupalayam

Engine at Metupalayam

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway starts its journey into the mountains at Metupalayam. When we visited the line in November the steam locomotives were hauling the train from here up to Coonoor and then the diesel loco took over for the rest of the run into Ooty. This engine was standing out of use in the engine shed just adjacent to the station while our train engine was shunting the coaches in the background. We arrived as dusk set in, so photography was less easy here. The town of Metupalayam looked an interesting place to visit but we were driving from here to Mysore to find a hotel and so time was limited and I had to grab a few photos as darkness fell as we headed north.
