January at Carlingwark

January at Carlingwark

A cold and sunny January morning had us travelling to Castle Douglas in order to pay a visit to the dentist. Had we set off ten minutes earlier, there would have been time to capture the Dee at full tide as well as the Loch, both reflecting like a mirror, but we hadn’t counted on the light being so perfect…..and to be honest, I’m not known for being early for anything, so that was a missed opportunity.

Ah well, at least we had a long walk after finishing at the dentist and this photo was one taken then. The Loch was exceptionally high and our usual footpaths along the shore were flooded but it did allow us to get a close look at the swans that were swanning about along the shore, mainly showing off and chasing each other. Perhaps that’s a sign that Spring isn’t far away.
