The End is Nigh

The End is Nigh

The Milk Plant stood by the River Dee in Kirkcudbright since about 1927 until the end of 2012. The site has now been cleared and work has started on new housing. This tower structure was a local landmark.

Before closure I tried to obtain permission to go into the plant to record the final days for the men and women working there, but the company seemed to believe that history was better served by as little fuss as possible. The loss of so many jobs was a real blow to the local economy and especially for those who worked there.

…..so I complied with the ‘keep out’ notices and shot through the fence.
