As we headed up the Dee estuary on 18 July, it being a Thursday, the boats based at Kirkcudbright were starting to return with their catch. Here, Academus, BA817, is heading home past the woods of St Mary’s Isle.

Academus has an overall length of 16.11 metres, a weight of 66 tons and was built in 1998. The Kirkcudbright fleet is primarily fishing for shellfish and the catch is processed at the factory on Dee Walk, and then is distributed all over the country.

I should think that the crew would have been very happy to sail home under such ideal conditions………for this is definitely not your normal Scottish weather.

  1. Love this tranquil image. I like how the deep blue of the sea in the foreground recedes in intensity as the eye travels to the distance. The gentle wavelets and the lovely reflection of the fishing boat. Very nice.
