Heavy Wading


Of all the outdoor sculpture listed for Edinburgh, this piece and another five in the Water of Leith behind the Gallery of Modern Art, don’t seem to be acknowledged in official listings.

They are all by British sculptor Antony Gormley and make up the 6 Times project. This one is embedded into the tarmac in the middle of the pedestrian entrance from Belford Road into the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

  1. It seems he’s been silenced, too, with his webbed mouth. Very interesting, John….and it’s fitting that there’s a bit of water on the tarmac to add to the effect of him wading…
