Footplateman
Who wants to drive a steam locomotive…..I know several lady visitors here who would jump at the chance. Perhaps the reality of working everyday shovelling coal into the firebox would dampen our enthusiasm but there’s no doubting the excitement and magical appeal of thundering through the countryside in the charge of a snorting living machine like this. Count me in…it’s what boys dream of, and I am sure I have seen a woman working on the footplate on this line; the Severn Valley Railway that runs between Bridgnorth in Shropshire and Kidderminster in Worcestershire. Don’t you envy them…..
Reblogged this on chaotiqual.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” …”An engineer on a steam locomotive with an assitant to shovel the coal on the Severn Valley Railway; and, then I want to see the Seven Wonders of the World,” the little girl answered.
I wish I could say, ‘Mary, your wish is granted’….
but we can dream, can’t we…. 🙂
Of course we can dream. And, we can travel to places through photography and by writing about it.
