Harbour Scene
In deciding an interpretation for this photo, I was drawn by the many pictures by Frank Sutcliffe of the ships in Whitby harbour from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It’s possible that Sutcliffe would have used a second plate for the sky though I haven’t checked his prints to see whether he ever used several plates to construct his images. This was common practice at the time because of the limited dynamic range of the emulsion.
This is GORGEOUS!

Loving this image John. I’m a big fan of Sutcliffe and I’m sure he would be proud of your harbour scene. Well done my friend 🙂

I particularly like his views of the locals on farms and around the town. What a great time to have lived through with a camera. Thanks Mark.
The photo speaks to me from another time, John…beautiful color selection…wonderful finish.
I hear voices too…….but fortunately my left ear don’t hear too well.
….. Mmmm, you don’t see too many old tubs like that anymore either…..so it had to be brown on account of the old days were sepia…..just sepia…
Yes, I think the sepia is what did it for me…and the voices…. 😉
