Portrait of a Potter

David Alexander in his studio.

Dumfries & Galloway has many fine studio potters and one of the longest established is David Alexander who has an interesting studio in Kirkpatrick Durham. I took this portrait of David a few weeks back when I was getting serious enough about HDR to carry my tripod everywhere with me though this was hand held.  I started out with the intention of posting an HDR interpretation of the 3 photos of David, but after messing about with Photomatix Pro…….a useful piece of software…….it wasn’t going well………you know what HDR images can start to look like……..really grungy!…….so I decided to start again with the middle exposure and then used the dark exposure to tone down the background……..and ended up with a clay coloured potter which I quite like, having gone through lots of colour filtering………..there are just so many options, it’s difficult to know where to stop. What really pleased me was that David stood absolutely still for the 3 shots which overlaid perfectly. Thanks David.
