Shoreham Footbridge
Shoreham by Sea is on the south coast of England between Brighton and Worthing. As I was preparing this post I see that The Argus has reported that the one hundred year old footbridge has had to be closed permanently because West Sussex Council have ruled it to be unsafe, partly because it was hit recently by a barge, but mainly owing to its decaying condition.
The bridge crosses the River Adure at the point where it turns east to run parallel to the coast for a short distance, and links Riverside with Shoreham town centre. Fortunately for the inhabitants there is a new bridge already under construction……… as you can probably see.
This tidal section of the river is home to dozens of unusual houseboats, some of them also decrepit……..err ….but…….full of character…….of course…..
There’s something so striking about a boat on land….
Yup…. just a sittin’ there, waiting for the old tide to roll back in………though if some local boats are anything to go by, it will be full of water..
Uh oh….
