On the map this is marked as Nun Mill Bay, but everyone knows it as The Dhoon, or Dhoon Bay. It’s just a short distance down the Dee Estuary from Kirkcudbright and has a nice sandy beach. We sometimes take the dog for a run along the shore and he always barks when he sees children in the water. I think that he thinks they’re in danger. For most of the year there are never more than four or five people on the beach, so it’s strange to go in the summer to find families scattered along the sand, and children making sand castles or damming the small stream.
We have noticed over the years how the topography of the beach has changed. The Autumn gales tend to rearrange the sand and pebbles, and at the moment the northern end of the beach has lost most of it’s sand. This view was taken a few days ago when the beach was nearly empty…………and it’s a great place to unwind.
